Training Schedule 


Mandt: Non-violent crisis prevention. Mandatory for staff and subcontractors at Vantage Enterprises Ltd. At this time, this workshop is available only to staff and subcontractors of Vantage Enterprises Ltd.

 

Medication Administration: Upon completion of this two hour workshop, individuals will have a basic understanding of how to administer, observe and record the use of medications taken by supported individuals. This workshop is mandatory for staff and subcontractors at Vantage Enterprises Ltd.

 

Emergency First Aid: Upon completion of this one day course, individuals will receive certification in emergency first aid. This course is mandatory for all staff and subcontractors supporting

 

Supporting Individuals with Mental Illness: Upon completion of this two hour workshop, individuals will have a basic understanding of how to support individuals with mental illness.

 

Epilepsy: Upon completion of this two hour workshop, individuals will know how to recognize and correctly respond to seizure activity.

 

Foundations: Upon completion of this ACDS course, individuals will have the basic knowledge and skills required to be a successful direct service worker.

 

Intimacy and Disability: Upon completion of this two hour workshop, participants will have an understanding of intimacy and disability. This workshop dispels the myths, while recognizing the physical, social, and spiritual needs of differently abled individuals and how families and supports can work together in a supportive manner.

 

Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol and False Allegations: Upon completion of this two hour PDD workshop, participants will know how to reduce vulnerabilities to abuse for supported individuals, recognize potentially abusive situations, know how to respond to abuse, and learn how to prevent and respond to false allegations. This workshop is mandatory for staff and subcontractors supporting adults with developmental disabilities.

 

Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol and False Allegation (Youth): Upon completion of this two hour workshop, participants will know how to reduce vulnerabilities to abuse in children and youth with disabilities, recognize potentially abusive situations, know how to respond to abuse, and learn how to prevent and respond to false allegations when supporting children or youth.

 

 

Anger Management for Adults with Developmental Disabilities/Mental Illness. (Adults). This two hour workshop is to be taken together by supported individuals and their support staff or family member. Upon completion of this interactive workshop, supported individuals will have strategies to self-monitor and respond appropriately to their anger. Supports and family members will learn how to provide positive support through this process.

 

Anger Management for Youth with Disabilites/Mental Illness. Upon completion of this interactive workshop, youth will have strategies to self-monitor and respond appropriately while reducing incidents of anger at home, school, and in the community. Supports and family members will learn how to provide positive support through this process.

 

Documentation: Upon completion of this one to two hour workshop, participants will know how to complete paperwork required in a disability services setting including contact notes, monthly summaries, medication administration records, and incident reports.

 

Collaborative Problem Solving: Upon completion of this two hour workshop, participants will know how to work together to solve problems from program planning to behavioural issues as a more positive alternative to using punishments or rewards to change behaviours. This workshop is taken by supported individuals and their support or family member as supported individuals are given a lead role in the problem solving process.

 

Collaborative Problem Solving for Youth: Upon completion of this two hour workshop, participants will know how to work together to solve problems from program planning to behavioural issues as a more positive alternative to using punishments or rewards to change behaviours. This workshop is taken by supported individuals and their support or family member as youth learn how to lead the problem solving process.

 

Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act: Upon completion of this two hour information session, participants will have an understanding of the changes that have occurred since the Dependent Adults Act ended in October 2009. Participants will learn what the new requirements and processes are for Guardianship, and the role of Personal Directives and Co-Decision Making in giving supported individuals greater choice and independence.

 

Access Calgary Workshop: Upon completion of this one hour workshop, participants will know how to schedule subscription, casual and stand by trips with Access Calgary, and how to ensure priority booking for the individuals they support.

 

Positive Practices and Restrictive Procedures: Upon completion of this full day workshop, support staff and subcontractors will recognize how to be less restrictive with individuals they support, while applying positive support strategies in response to behavioural challenges. This workshop may be taken as two separate half day sessions on restrictives and positive practices.

 

Resource Information Sessions: Vantage provides opportunities for various information sessions on resources available for adults and/or children with disabilities including camps, recreational opportunities and subsidies available to individuals and their families.

 

Respite Network Sessions: Vantage provides opportunities for qualified supportive roommates and respite providers to meet with one another for networking and to arrange respite.

 

Dementia Care: Upon completion of this full day workshop, families and supports will have first hand experience of what it is like to have dementia and how to support individuals with Alzheimers or dementia related symptoms. At this time, this workshop is only available to volunteers, staff, subcontractors and families supported through Vantage Enterprises Ltd. Or Vantage Support Services Ltd.

 

Disability Awareness: Facilitated by individuals with disabilities, upon completion of this workshop, participants will gain knowledge and first hand experience of what it is like to have a disability. Length and content of workshop dependent on venue and needs of the participants.

 

The Living Social Story: Upon completion of two hour interactive workshop, supports and individuals with disabilities will have completed a social story/history of the supported individual’s needs and life experience.
